Impacts — Landscapes in a Changing Climate
I began this photographic work on climate change in Switzerland in 2005, two years before the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change published its Fourth Assessment Report. The impacts were less visible then, but 2005 was a year of warnings: floods, landslides and hailstorms marked it as a sign of what was to come. The work questions how to make visible something that had not yet fully arrived: ice retreating up the valleys, glaciers wrapped in white sheets, dams and protective walls, the traces of floods and landslides.
At the time, climate change was not taken seriously in the mainstream. Today it is a real threat. Hardly a day passes without alarming news, the changes reach into our lives, and our future has become uncertain.
